මොනවද මේ අලි මානා?

මානා, අලි මානා හෝ ඉංග්‍රීසියෙන් ගිනි ග්‍රාස් (Guinea Grass) නමින් හඳුන්වන්නේ තෘණ වර්ගයක් වන අතර මෙහි විද්‍යාත්මක නාමය Megathyrsus Maximus වේ. මෙම ශාඛයේ පත්‍ර ඉහළ ප්‍රෝටීන් සංයුතියක් ඇති බැවින් සත්ත්ව ආහාර ලෙස භාවිතා කළ හැකි වුවද ඇමරිකාවේ ටෙක්සාස් ප්‍රාන්තයේ, හවායි මෙන්ම අපේ රටේද ආක්‍රමණික පැලෑටියක් ලෙස හැසිරෙයි.

මහනුවර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ, පාතහේවාහැට ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් සාගරිකා දිල්හානි මහත්මියගේ අධීක්ෂණය යටතේ ක්‍රියාත්මක වන විශේෂ ව්‍යාපෘතියක් යටතේ අලි මානා තෘණ පැළෑටිය යොදාගෙන පරිසර හිතකාමී, ස්වභාවික කඩදාසි නිෂ්පාදනය ශ්‍රියාගම, ලෑටියගොල්ල සහ මොරගොල්ල ගම්මාන කේන්ද්‍ර කර ගනිමින් පාතහේවාහැට ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් බල ප්‍රදේශයේ සංවර්ධන නිළධාරීන්ගේ සහ ක්ෂේත්‍ර නිළදාරීන්ගේ මඟ පෙන්වීම යටතේ ගෘහ කර්මාන්තයක් ලෙස මෙම වටිනා කර්තව්‍යය දැනටමත් සිදු වෙමින් පවතී.

එමෙන්ම එම නිළධාරීන්ගේ අධීක්ෂණය සහ උපදෙස් මත රැකියා විරහිත තරුණ පිරිස් වෙත අවශ්‍ය පුහුණුව සහ තාක්ෂණය ලබා දෙමින් මූලික කඩදාසි නිෂ්පාදන සඳහා අගය එකතු කිරීමේ සමගාමී වැඩසටහනක්ද ක්‍රියාත්මක වේ. ඒ අනූව මෙම ස්වභාවික කඩදාසි යොදාගනිමින් විවිධ සැරසිලි, සුභ පැතුම් පත්, බෑග් සහ තෑගි දවටන වැනි අගය එකතු කළ නිෂ්පාදන සිදු කරනු ලබයි.

කැන්ඩි සිටි සෙන්ටර් සභාපති තුසිත විජයසේන මහතාගේ දැක්මට අනුව දේශීය ගෘහස්ථ, සුළු හා මධ්‍ය පරිමාණ නිෂ්පාදකයින් දිරි ගැන්වීම සහ දේශීය මෙන්ම විදේශීය වෙළෙඳ පොළ අවස්ථා මෙන්ම තාක්ෂණය හඳුන්වා දීම පසු ගිය අවුරුදු කිහිපය පුරාම අපි සිදු කලෙමු. එතුමන් ලබා දුන් අවස්ථාවන්ගෙන් නිසි ප්‍රයෝජන ගෙන තම කර්මාන්තය ඉතා ඉහළ මට්ටමකට ගෙන ආ දේශීය ශිල්පීන්, ව්‍යවසායකයින්, නිෂ්පාදනකරුවන් දහස් ගණනකි.

අලි මානා වලින් සිදු කරන මෙම පරිසර හිතකාමී නිෂ්පාදයන් තුළින් එළඹෙන වෙසක් සමයේ අවශ්‍ය සැරසිලි කළ හැකි බව සැලවූ විගස එතුමන්ගේ පූර්ණ අනුමැතිය සහ ආශිර්වාදය මැද කැන්ඩි සිටි සෙන්ටර් පරිශ්‍රය අලි මානා කඩදාසි වලින් නිමැවූ වෙසක් කූඩු පන්සියයකට ආසන්න ප්‍රමාණයකින් සැරසීමට අපි කටයුතු කළෙමු. එබැවින් මෙවර වෙසක් සමයේ අලි මානා ස්වභාවික කඩදාසියෙන් නිමවූ වෙසක් කූඩු වලින් කැන්ඩි සිටි සෙන්ටර් පරිශ්‍රය ඒකාලෝක වනු ඇත.

එයින් නොනැවතී ඔවුන්ගේ නිෂ්පාදන සඳහා දේශීය සහ විදේශීය අවධානය යොමු කරවීමටද අප මෙය අවස්ථාවක් කර ගන්නෙමු.

Did you know that paper can be produced using the Guinea Grass plant, which is found in many areas of our country and is considered an invasive plant?

What is Guinea Grass?

The scientific name of this is Megathyrsus Maximus. Although the leaves of this plant have a high protein content, they can be used as animal feed, but the plant behaves and considered as an invasive plant in Texas, Hawaii, and in Sri Lanka.

What can be done with Guinea Grass and who is involved?

Eco-friendly, natural paper production using the Guinea Grass is already underway as a domestic industry in Shriagama, Latiagolla and Moragolla villages under the supervision of Mrs. Sagarika Dilhani, Pathahewahata Divisional Secretary and under the guidance of Development Officers and Field Officers of Pathahewahata Divisional Secretariat.

In addition, a program of adding value to basic paper product is being implemented by providing the necessary training and technology to the unemployed youth. Various decorations, greeting cards, bags and gift wraps are being manufactured under the said special project.

According to the vision of Chairman – Kandy City Centre, Mr. Thusitha Wijayasena, we have been encouraging local domestic, small and medium scale manufacturers and introducing local and foreign market opportunities as well as technology throughout past few years. Thousands of local artisans, entrepreneurs, producers have made it to the top level by taking proper advantage of the opportunities given by Kandy City Centre.

As soon as we realized that we can use this eco-friendly product made from Guinea Grass to make Vesak lanterns, with the guidance and blessings of Mr. Wijayasena, we made arrangements to decorate KCC premises with nearly five hundred Vesak lanterns during this Vesak season.

Most importantly, we will take this as an opportunity to draw local and foreign attention to this one of a kind local product.
